Paris London Hong Kong is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new works by Joe Pflieger, titled Praesto Presto.

Chicago, IL – Paris London Hong Kong completes the 2013 season with Praesto Presto, an exhibition of new photography by Joe Pflieger. In the artist’s first show with PLHK, the work manifests itself in both a formal mounted photography show as well as a collaged abstract narrative installation. Praesto Presto continues through January 25, 2014.

The imagery depicted in Praesto Presto is ripe with disconnected, angular perspectives of forgotten or overlooked architectural elements. In the work, Pflieger finds meditative moments residing in cities that appear to be consumed by urban development. Pflieger’s focus on details in monumental architecture, invite the viewer to contemplate environment in relation to the personal psyche making the obscure intimate. The referential qualities in the images are diminished by saturation, distorted vantage points and surface manipulation – creating a passage for the viewer, initiating as an abstraction and driving towards familiarity.

Pflieger employs tonal and painterly qualities on the surfaces of the work, which further augment the emotional responses ranging from reflective to mysterious. The work often appears vacant and remiss without immediate attachment to the macro subject matter at hand. In Praesto Presto, Pflieger engages the viewer as an observer in his quiet world of built conditions, lost to immediate response.

JOE PFLIEGER (American, b. 1977) lives and works in New York. Pflieger received a MFA in Art Theory and Practice form Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois and a BFA in Painting and Printmaking form University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin. His work has recently been exhibited at The Green Gallery, Milwaukee, WI; Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Chicago, IL; and Monya Rowe Gallery, New York, NY.
