Christine Kirouac is a Canadian media artist currently working in the U.S. Her work explores the “performance” of ethnicity and identity through lenses of cliché, storytelling, mimicry and popular culture. Her videos and installations move between enigmatic acts of personal revelation and social observation, blending elements of cinema, theatre and documentary. Kirouac’s quasi-biographical work evokes uneasy reactions of empathy, humor, and pain, yet the unifying thread is a state of contingency where both content and narrative unfold without conclusion.
