Charles Mahaffee: SacredScared

@ Comfort Station

2579 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60647

Opening Saturday, September 7th, from 6PM - 8PM

On view through Sunday, September 29th

Charles Mahaffe’s work is centered in language, fraught with nervous tensions and vibrates with its interplay of lines. His anagramatic charcoal works on paper are often confrontational in size and yet, despite his austere black and white palette, Mahaffee’s works rattle and vibrate with fantastic nervous energy.

Language, for Mahaffee, is “untrustworthy, necessary, freeing, inhibiting, missing, present and past” and omnipresent in all permutations of his work.

Charles Mahaffee was born in Decatur, Georgia in 1980. He earned his BFA (’05) and MFA (’07) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since graduation he has shown his work nationally and abroad in such venues as Lloyd Dobler Gallery, Hinge Gallery, Julius Caesar Gallery, MDW fairs (2011, 2012), the NEXT exhibition at Art Chicago, and the Action Field Kodra Festival in Thessolaniki, Greece. He currently lives and works in Doha, Qatar.
