Vital Records is the first show at Out of Office and is an evening of performances and screenings about wanting something you really, really need, but just can’t ask for.

Bethany Austhof works between new media and sculpture, bringing a background in machine-learning research to films, animated collages and sensor-driven installations about surveillance and the digital record a person leaves behind, or comes into the world with.
Chris Collins is a Chicago-based new media artist whose art games, videos and participatory events treat networked technology as a site of contradiction, at once beautiful and banal, empowering and surveilling. Working from inside what he calls the “awkward squirm of digital culture,” he looks for its humor and its logic.
Jared Christopher Kelley builds mechatronic sculptures, sound works and performances that depend on their audiences, whose responses, directed or improvised, feed his research into how behavior is learned. His subjects include life after leaving a cult and the ethics of transhumanism, and more broadly the religious and misguided technological promises of escape from the body’s limits.
Doug Rosman is a Chicago-based artist and educator for whom code is both the medium and the thing under scrutiny. His installations, net art, video, prints and live performances use generative systems and computer vision to trace the feedback loops through which the technologies people build shape them in return.
