Wind Knitting Factory by Dutch Designer Merel Karhof
@ Design Museum of Chicago
72 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601
Opening Tuesday, September 22nd, from 11 am - 4 PM
Dutch designer Merel Karhof brings her Wind Knitting Factory to the Design Museum of Chicago as part of her September tour through the United States, selected for the cultural programme of America250, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The Wind Knitting Factory is a wind-powered knitting machine inspired by the principle of the American windmill invented by Daniel Halladay. During the event, Karhof will demonstrate the machine and talk about the project, explaining how wind drives the knitting process and how the resulting knitted scarves are created. She will knit scarves in the colours of the American landscape, connecting the windmill traditions of the Netherlands and the United States.
