Taffy Pull is a two-person exhibition that invites conversations about perception and physicality. Historically, taffy pulls were social events where paired bodies in motion stretched and folded a treat to share. Though largely lost to time and now replaced by machines, the playful spirit of this collaborative practice is revived here, producing a shared sensory experience.
Rosalynn Gingerich’s colossal, pneumatic forms confront the viewer with color and volume. Sewn from neon yellow fabric, these vibrant inflatables disrupt the architecture of the space and command attention, inviting movement and exploration. In contrast, Vesna Jovanovic’s work calls for close observation, enticing viewers through the alchemy of poured ink and paint. Her familiar yet not-quite-nameable textures evoke a visceral response. Together, the two artists transform the gallery—stretching, folding, choreographing movement through the space—generating delight, much like pulled saltwater taffy.
