Chicago Journal of Visual Art Issue I Launch
@ Point Blank
1541 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60642
Opening Friday, September 25th, at 6PM
The Chicago Journal of Visual Art invites you to the release party of Issue I on September 25, 2026 at Point Blank from 6-9pm.
We welcome you to join our symposium New Modes: Imagining emerging scholarship in the Twenty-First Century hosted by Jake Leech, featuring Jonah Sanderson, Angelina Randazzo, Matthew Cortez, and Jasmine Johnson from 6:30-7:30pm.
In a time of institutional shifts and professional uncertainty, how do emerging scholars, artists, and critics transform precarity into a site of generative potential? How does scholarship evolve past standard conceptions of academia? In this symposium the aim is to explore the ways in which emerging scholars structure research as a response to the shifting environment around them, whether that is by developing and presenting underresearched topics in the field of art, using criticism as a means of research, or deviating from traditional modes of scholarship. In a roundtable discussion, the contributors of Issue I will outline the ways in which they interpret and pursue scholarship.
This event is free and open to the public, with copies available for purchase.
