On September 25, as part of DCASE’s annual Ragamala Festival, I’ll be creating The Community Blessings Rangoli for Chicago at the Chicago Cultural Center and inviting people from across the city to help create one large, collective Rangoli.

The project uses a traditional South Asian art form to ask a contemporary question: What kind of community do we want to create together? It is ultimately a work about belonging, peace, and our shared hopes for the future. At a time when we are reflecting on our country’s 250th anniversary, the project asks a simple question: What kind of community do we want to create together?
