Midwest Rave Culture Archive

@ 200OK

1835 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60661

Opening Friday, August 14th, from 6PM - 10PM

Midwest Rave Culture Archive alongside 200ok programs a very special Second Friday series in Pilsen

6-10pm — free

Listen, watch, and touch — archival collections will be on display — vinyl records, film projections, zines, magazines and publications. View, engage, and acquire — large scale digital arts paintings, layered acrylic, and the original cyber deck by Carol Ann Ardolino.

The Midwest Rave Culture Archive preserves and interprets the art, artifacts, and culture of a sociomusical movement that has been an influential force in advancing experimental sound practices and cultivating spaces, counter to mainstream, where individuals could express themselves freely and experience the profound, collective euphoria of music.

We seek to meaningfully engage community members who have lived, shaped, and sustained Midwest rave culture; inviting collections of ephemera, audio and visual recordings, and oral histories. We aim to strengthen the historical record, develop systems for long-term preservation, provide essential context for future researchers, and affirm a sense of belonging and recognition within a community that has often been marginalized, misrepresented, or overlooked.

Support for this project will enable us to deepen outreach, build trust, and ensure significant cultural contributions, and the lived experiences that define them, are preserved with the care, dignity, and authenticity they deserve. https://mwrca.org/
