VLX 7.4 Experimental Films and Live Sound Response
@ Material
2218 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Wednesday, July 29th, from 7:30PM - 9:30PM
Two nights. One transmission.
The Chicago program across two rooms. Wednesday opens intimate at Material — a working lab night in a small gallery. Friday goes wide at Elastic Arts for the full transmission and press night. Same format throughout: short experimental film, paired with live score. Two very different rooms.
The first of two Chicago transmissions. Twelve short experimental films from eight countries, paired with intimate live response. A gallery that does not pretend to be a cinema — and that’s the point. Rough edges welcome.
Missing Piece
Missing Piece, a south-side Chicago ensemble founded by violinist Dan Galat and cellist Kelly Quesada. Project-based and frequently expanded with guest collaborators, the ensemble has commissioned and premiered more than thirty new works spanning standard notation, graphic and text scores, poetry, film, movement, and improvisation. A two-time Illinois Arts Council grant recipient, Missing Piece co-founded the Bridgeport Music Collective, a community music space on Chicago’s south side.
