Artworks by Lan Li and Emily Heneghan

Patching up Oblivion is a duo exhibition by Lan Li and Emily Heneghan. In this exhibition, dynamics of stretched metal, building, falling, and obliterating are established amongst the conception of a mis-matched memory. Through a variety of media, the artists explore what happens as our memories warp, and reconstruct themselves over time- exploring this plane as an abstracted visual landscape.

The 3D works move both forward and backward through emotional volume towards a stretched out state of mind that is ever limber and in beautiful ruins: where everything can be a form of play. The 2D works, layered with mixed media and diverse textures, serve as relics from the mechanics of a dream. Providing opportunity to project one’s own subconscious onto a psychological geology.

As an idea from Svetlana Boym’s The Future of Nostalgia describes, “Reflective nostalgia does not pretend to rebuild the mythical place called home; it is enamored of distance, not of the reverent itself.”
