Sarah Whyte, And The Spaces Between
@ Chicago Art Department
1926 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Friday, November 14th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Friday, December 19th
Through the lens of adoptee artists, the exhibition And The Spaces Between is an acknowledgment of the yes, and I am also… A love letter to the lost child within us all. What does it mean to have a multifaceted identity? To have a relationship with more than one territory, culture, and history. What does it mean to experience limbo because of the journey life forces us to take? What does it mean to acknowledge the love and the loss created by the spaces between?
The exhibition explores how the journey of adoption leaves spaces between identities. What is left and what is gained when we travel through space? What is remembered, and what is forgotten? Questions with perhaps no answers. Questions that may only be reaffirmed by community. This show is about the nuances that live within every complex identity. We are the spaces between.
