For the past year, Dmitry Samarov has been designing and illustrating books in the public domain. Starting with Herman Melville’s incomparable Moby Dick, Samarov continued with Sinclair Lewis’s Babbitt, Bruce Wagner’s The Marvel Universe: Origin Stories, James Hogg’s The Suicide’s Grave, William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury, and Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio. This exhibition brings together some fifty drawings and paintings done in Sumi ink, graphite, and ballpoint pen for a unique glimpse into Samarov’s working process.
