Map of Healing Interactive & Immersive Art Exhibit

@ Hairpin Arts Center

2810 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618

Opening Friday, October 10th, at 1PM

On view through Sunday, October 12th

Map of Healing is an interactive and immersive exhibit of survivor-made and -curated art that invites attendees to move through the chapters of survivorship and healing, guided by the voices and visions of those who have lived it. As you charter the layered, non-linear path of recovery that this exhibit unfolds, you will see the beauty, pain, strength, and perserverence of survivorship, and how art, used not only as a tool for expression but self discovery, can be key to that expereince.

The art exhibited is from the Awakenings Art Permanent Collection, a collection of artwork by survivors of sexual violence exploring healing through art. Awakenings Art is a nonprofit art studio in Ravenswood that provides free, trauma-informed, inclusive art-making experiences for survivors of sexual violence that encourage healing. This exhibit was curated by a group of survivors who graduated from our Cohort Program – a 7-9 week art workshop series focused on healing and creating community.

Come expecting a creative and immersive installation of art displayed in many ways, and interactive elements that invite you to not only view the art, but actively participate in it’s meaning. The goal of this exhibit is to share this beautiful work, while also exploring the deeper meanings behind what survivorship is, what healing can look like, and understanding the different perspectives that can be held with those things.
