Artist Talk with John Bakker: The Old Town Portrait Project

Join us for a special conversation with Chicago artist John Bakker, creator of the Old Town Portrait Project. This ongoing community art project invites residents and workers from Old Town to submit their photos, which Bakker transforms into hand-painted portraits on wooden boxes accompanied by hand-lettered biographies.

At this talk, Bakker will share insights into his artistic process, the inspiration behind the project, and his experiences creating similar portrait series in other Chicago neighborhoods. Audience members will also have the chance to learn how they can participate by submitting their own photos to be included in the project.

Celebrate the stories and dignity of Old Town through art, community, and conversation.
