On Thursday, August 21, from 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM, join us for a special improvisational performance by Marvin Tate at A Listening Space, part of our new summer hours at 305 E. Garfield Blvd.

Marvin Tate is a Chicago native, and interdisciplinary artist from the west side. His works have appeared and heard on stage globally, internationally and locally. As a poet, he has performed at The Poetry Foundation’s 50th Anniversary, National Public Radio’s, “This American Life”, Def -Jam Poetry and on the BBC Radio program “The Poetry Detective”. As a performer he has recorded and played with the late Jamie Branch’s: Jazz Drummer , Pitch-Fork Music Founder, and band leader, Mike Reed, multi-instrumentalists, Ben LaMar Gay, Angel Bat Dawid, Bill McKay, Leroy Bach, the Visual Artists and Performer, Theaster Gates Jr., Feminist-Artist , Porn Actress, Annie Sprinkle, Alabaster Deplume, Parliament/funkidellic, Circuit Des Yeux, Tim Kinsella and Angel Olsen. Tate is the founder of the legendary, experimental soul band, D-settlement. There 3 vinyl boxset (American Dream Records) was voted ‘The Best Of’ in Pitchfork Magazine, and Band Camp and NY Times in 2022. Presently, he is the recipient of a Jeff Award, for ‘best -set design’ for the play, Rhinoceros.

As we prepare to open our newest project at the former St. Laurence Elementary School, we’re pleased to host a series of experimental programs every Thursday night through August. Wine will be made available for purchase, and as always, we’ll serve complimentary tea throughout the night.
