This event is part of the UIC Social Justice Initiative’s free summer event series In Tandem: Solidarity, Solidarité, Solidaridad, curated by Lola Ayisha Ogbara, which explores themes of solidarity, collective work, and the process of building toward common goals through film, art, performance, workshops, and more. Join SJI on Wednesday, July 30 for a special screening of Audre Lorde: The Berlin Years, 1984-1992.

This film uses previously unreleased footage of Lorde on and off stage from director Dagmar Schultz’s archives, paired with insights from Lorde’s colleagues and friends into the last years of her life and advocacy. Lorde’s work as a pathbreaking Black, lesbian, socialist, feminist poet and professor in West Berlin served as a catalyst in the Afro-German movement, challenged white women to engage in meaningful solidarity, and inspired a generation of writers and poets of color in Germany.

Space is limited, so kindly RSVP to attend.
