Increasingly, we rely on sight to communicate with and to the world at large. Our ever expanding online world has established the āif a tree fellā persausion⦠did it even happen if no one saw? We beg for ways to show one another. We use our eyes to represent. Behold! The politics of viewing is an interrogation of intention around an act that is so very automatic. The relationship between what we see and what we know is never settled. How about what we share about what weāve seen?
Without publicity capitalism could not survive. When the rise of colonial capitalism has taken our very senses as a means of control, we must keep our eyes peeled. Evade or indulge in being seen when the powers that be demand and refuse to look. Resist notion of an objective, disembodied gaze.
They were all right. Donna Harroway, bell hooks, Sontag, Benjamin, Berger, Mirzeoff. When hooks said āsurveillance is the key to colonization and if youāve colonized well people will enact rituals of surveillance themselves.ā Join us as we incite visuality, which beckons to a time in which āmy claim to the right to look is met by your willingness to be seen. And I reciprocate.ā
