Join Maggie and Africa Brown on December 14 for Opportunity Please Knock!, a powerful program honoring Oscar Brown Jr.’s legacy of using the arts to inspire peace and youth empowerment on Chicago’s South Side.
Join Maggie and Africa Brown for Opportunity Please Knock!, a 90-minute program celebrating the profound legacy of their father, Oscar Brown Jr., and his transformative work with Chicago’s youth in the 1960s. This event will feature live poetry and musical performances, along with historical insights into OBJr.’s efforts to use the arts to reduce gang violence and promote peace in the South Side community.
Through the Opportunity Please Knock project, Oscar Brown Jr. engaged with the “Mighty Blackstone Rangers,” helping youth redirect their energy into creative expression and personal growth. The program will include performances, a display of rare artifacts, and stories that showcase how his mission continues to inspire community change.
This event honors OBJr.’s lasting impact on arts, activism, and youth empowerment, in alignment with Rebuild Foundation’s commitment to cultural transformation on the South Side.
