Artist Talk, Workshop & Closing Reception: Pająki (pah-YONK-ee / spiders)
@ Oliva Gallery
3816 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Friday, December 13th, from 6 PM - 9 PM
On view through Friday, December 13th
Discover the tradition of Polish pająki with artist Andrea Jablonski. These vibrant folk mobiles, crafted from straw, paper, and feathers, are rich in history and symbolism. Traditionally hung in homes during winter, pająki spin gently in the breeze, warding off bad luck and evil spirits. Rooted in Slavic rituals marking the winter solstice and spring equinox, they celebrate seasonal change and serve as protective ornaments.
This drop-in workshop invites participants to create their own mini pająki at their own pace. Learn basic construction techniques, add personal touches, and engage in a dialogue led by Jablonski on cultural customs and their influence on art. Larger pająki samples will be on display and available for purchase.
This event also serves as the closing reception for the dynamic duo show (is it) Enough?, featuring Andrea Jablonski and Paul Wear. Celebrate the culmination of this powerful exhibition while immersing yourself in art, history, and tradition.
