Aug 8th 2024

As an extension of our current exhibition Be of Love , Public Works is sharing space with a truly innovative organization, The Love Fridge Chicago. Join us Thursday, August 8 from 7-9pm at the gallery to learn more about the inspiring work of this initiative and how to get involved.

The Love Fridge Chicago is a groundbreaking mutual aid group addressing food waste and food insecurity by providing community fridges. The organization places refrigerators in accessible locations throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. Developed by artists and sustained by volunteers, this initiative is the perfect example of the expansive possibilities of care.

During this Town Hall-style information session, The Love Fridge organizers will be on-site to field questions and share updates about their organization, including upcoming food rescue opportunities for volunteers and new additions to our network of community-run refrigerators.

Speakers:

• Chicago Food Sovereignty Coalition: Representatives from the organization will discuss how our vast network of mutual aid groups works together to bring positive change to our city.

• El Comedor Comunitario: a self-organized community kitchen by and for newly arrived Central American migrants in Chicago.

• Keyante Aytch: This solar installation specialist will share how The Love Fridge has implemented self-sustaining solar power at several of our sites.

More:

The program will be followed by a screening and discussion of “COMO SE HACE – HOW TO,” a collaborative film created by No Shelter Media and El Comedor Communitario.
This will be an excellent opportunity to meet and learn how to get more involved. We look forward to seeing you!
