Bring Your Own Blanket
@ Smart Museum of Art, The University of Chicago
5550 S Greenwood Ave, Chicago, IL 60637
Opening Sunday, January 14th, from 2PM - 4PM
A program and performance by A. Ng Pavel
Join us for a special performance by Smart Museum of Art and UChicago alum A. Ng Pavel (BA/MA 2020).
This participatory program and performance is inspired by A. Ng Pavel’s experiences living as an undergraduate at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park and, more recently, as a graduate student in Oxford, Mississippi. Situating childhood memories of their mother’s quilting among the textile works of global diasporas on view in Calling on the Past, Ng Pavel connects the threads of their role as a writer, textile artist, musician, and lyricist to bring us all together in an afternoon of care and rest.
This performance is:
a public service address / warning
a guided meditation
a contemporary spoken word art piece
avant-garde theatre
a small seminar class
a community circle / quilting circle
Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets and be prepared to lie down in the gallery.
FREE, open to all.
