Locus is an artists’ collective founded by Catherine Phang, Pedram Diba, Jack Hamill, and Gen Tanaka in the Summer of 2023. The word itself means a point of convergence, a place where all lines meet to form a singularity of creative potential.
Locus’s mission is to facilitate the realization and presentation of impactful, energetically-charged artistic experiences. We believe that this is achieved through bringing people together, nurturing a density of connection, and providing settings for collective visions to be realized.
We consider interdisciplinary collaboration to be paramount to the impact, outreach, and novelty of our work. Our collaborative practice is integrated across a range of disciplines, including those that are less traditional and/or unaffiliated with established institutions.
We assume a phenomenological approach to presentation, curation, and programming. Our primary consideration is the experience of being in a specific space, during a specific window of time.
We understand the boundaries of the art object to be flexible and context-sensitive. Our focus on viscerality is grounded in maintaining a consciousness of the entire experience and the culture of the platform through which it is being presented.
