In celebrating the release of the collaborative work “Aquas de León Azul” on the SN label
alongside Kiku Hibino, we are excited to welcome Mexican sound artist Ana Paula Santana toConstellation. The event will feature solo performances by both artists, culminating in aharmonious duo performance. Kim Alpert will be contributing her visual artistry to the sets.
Ana Paula Santana
Mexican artist based in Guadalajara who works in the fields of sound art, experimental music, graphics, ceramics, video and installation. Santana uses error, repetition, disruption and accumulation as creative tools; and pays close attention to how sound affects us in physical and psychological ways. In addition to sound, she has a tendency to work with written word, and many times her projects end up being print publications. She has been beneficiary of FONCA and PECDA (Nacional and statal Young Creators grant), and she obtained the Creators of Peace recognition from the Mexican government for Resilience project. Artist-in-residence at Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Nebraska summer 2022. Her work has been exhibited at the Zapopan Museum of Art, Oaxaca Museum of Contemporary Art, Ex Teresa Arte Actual, Museo del Chopo, among others. She uses the pseudonym Ana Fauna for musical productions and live acts. She is the founder and director of O.Y.E. Oficio y Experimentación, an exhibition space that promotes experimental arts in Zapopan, Jalisco.
Kikù Hibino
Japanese-born sound artist Hibino produces electronic music focusing on unusual rhythmic
structures and melodies inspired by nature, optical illusion, and moiré patterns. From
chamber music for media productions to ambient noise for art installations, he has
collaborated internationally with a wide variety of artists and scholars.
Kikù is on the Italian record label Superpang. His work has been shown in Museum Of
Contemporary Art Chicago, Bemis Center For Contemporary Arts, Reva and David Logan
Center for the Arts, Experimental Sound Studio, Chicago Cultural Center, Three Walls, Compound Yellow, Elastic Arts, Hairpin Arts Center, Hyde Park Art Center, Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. He’s a 2017 Individual Artist Grant recipient from ChicagoDepartment of Cultural Affairs and a 2021 Outer Ear Artist in Residency at ExperimentalSound Studio. Kikù lives and works in Chicago.
