For their Public History Practicum, three students from the University of Chicago curated an exhibit using Gerber/Hart archival materials centered around community space as health care. “Moving Beyond Medicine” is curated by Selin Oh, Lee Boomer, and Emily Yekikian and takes a look at the efforts of organizations like Amigas Latinas, Lesbian / Gay Interfaith Alliance, Gay Lesbian Student Teacher Network (GLSTN), and Gay Horizons. They have also incorporated the content from several zines in our zine and comic collections! In addition to text and imagery on the walls, the exhibit will feature a comfortable lounge seating area as a healing space for visitors and patrons to enjoy.
Exhibit opens (Saturday, June 17th) and will be accessible during Gerber/Hart’s open hours (Wednesday and Thursdays 6-9, Fridays 12-4, and Saturdays 10-4)
Where: Gerber/Hart, 6500 N Clark Street
