________________________________

Clayton Thomas:: Double Bass
born 1976, Hobart, Australia
Inspired by the sound, velocity and social movements of jazz, bassist Clayton Thomas has dedicated his musical life to finding a personal truth that links his own cultural life as a white Australian, with the radical, far reaching pursuits found within the creative music. What he can’t find as a bass player, he searches for in the organization of unreasonably large ensembles.
Clayton is also one of the organizers of the NOW now Festival, an artist-run celebration, of spontaneous music, experimental music, and even improvised music, that has become a Sydney institution. Now in its 18th year, it features a ridiculous bounty of Australia’s most forward-thinking musicians often paired in all manner of unique combinations with local and overseas artists, and the results are frequently astounding
