How do you think from or make an image of a place? When we ask ourselves these questions, we often find ourselves at odds with landscape, the historical genre and mode of framing that deeply influences how we look at and represent places with the camera. This workshop is a space to strengthen other possibilities: to approach landscape critically, and to form connections between image-making and place-making.
Weekly prompts will ask participants to make work within a place that is local and meaningful to them, encouraging experimental approaches to still and moving image-making. Together, the group will practice representing places through our bodies, and through a series of technological and architectural frames, such as screens, windows, books, and mirrors. This workshop can be used to work on an ongoing project that intersects with these ideas and questions, or as an opportunity to try something new. At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to participate in an online exhibition.
