@ Andrew Rafacz Gallery

835 W. Washington Blvd. Chicago IL 60607

Opening Saturday, June 30th, from 4PM - 7PM

On view through Saturday, August 11th

Andrew Rafacz continues the 2012 season with Bowling Alone, featuring the work of Brandon Anschultz, Daniel Baird, Benjamin Funke, Sarah Mosk, Eileen Mueller, Aay Preston-Myint, and Min Song in Gallery One and Peter Skvara: 100 Years of Adventure and Discovery in Gallery Two.

Both exhibitions continue through August 11, 2012.

In a country and historical moment where individualism is an ideological constant, the artists participating in BOLWLING ALONE, in vastly different ways, create work that either directly or indirectly addresses this decline of social capital. By refusing the notion of the singular creator obsessed with personal moments or idiosyncrasies, the works speak to actual physical space, cooperative practices, or take inspiration from a collective history.

Skvara presents new works that tip the scale on man vs. nature. He presents field recording paintings of his foilage collecting, made using found leaves as stencils for camouflage paintings that simultaneously address landscape and nature painting while re-contextualizing hunting motifs. He has also created a snare-trap-as-sculpture, made from obvious sculptural materials (wire, concrete) set in the gallery space, waiting to spring..
