Michael Mann: Thief
@ Doc Films at the University of Chicago
1212 E 59th St, Chicago, Illinois 60637
Opening Monday, February 3rd, from 7PM - 9PM
A safe-cracker decides to go for one last big heist before retiring. Mann’s directorial film debut manages to turn the nightscape of ‘80s Chicago into an alien world of neon noir. From the bluish-green tint of the city’s old mercury vapor streetlights to the old expressway configurations, the Chicago of Thief is at once old and familiar and cold and foreign. Featuring a great electronic score by Tangerine Dream.
format: Digital, runtime: 123 minutes
Part of our Monday series, Lost Chicago
