Join us for a book launch and panel discussion in celebration of Asexual Erotics by Ela Przybylo.

Join us for a discussion of all things ace! Author Ela Przybylo will begin this event by introducing her new book Asexual Erotics: Intimate Readings of Compulsory Sexuality , after which each speaker will engage with a different chapter of the book.
Asexual Erotics explores what it would mean to read texts for asexuality and to see asexuality as prolific in queer lives. The chapters engage with queer, feminist, lesbian, and antiracist movements, theories, and artwork to imagine a flourishing asexual erotics. Ace and aro zines will be shared! All are welcome.

Dr. Ela Przybylo is Assistant Professor in the Department of English and core faculty in the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Illinois State University. She is the author of Asexual Erotics: Intimate Readings of Compulsory Sexuality and co-editor of On the Politics of Ugliness. Ela is also a founding and managing editor of the peer-reviewed, open access, independent journal Feral Feminisms

Rebecca Tauber is an addiction specialist who uses trauma-informed practices and a harm reduction approach to guide participants through recovery on their own terms. They also have an extensive history of GSM activism and have used this experience to promote greater knowledge and inclusion of asexuality into conversations and GSM spaces. When they are not helping others, they enjoy reading, baking, and exploring the wilderness with their partner.

Dr. Lauren Beach , PhD/JD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Social Sciences and the Associate Director of the EDIT Program in the Institute for Sexual and Gender Minority Health and Wellbeing at Northwestern University. She investigates the epidemiology of chronic physical health conditions among SGM populations and strives to empower SGM community advocates to create evidence informed SGM health policy. Kinsey Erickson (she/her) is a freelance game designer who focuses on making silly or personal games as well as games that can be used as part of a curriculum or intervention, or to promote activism and acceptance. Right now, she is working on a short game that explores her personal history with her asexuality and how it affects love, flirting, and sex. You can find her work on her website, kinseyerickson.com. When she isn’t playing or making games, she loves cooking, going for walks, and watching moves in theatres.

Ashabi Owagboriaye is a Nigerian-American artist/activist who resides in Chicago. When she’s not collaborating with other creatives in the city, she curates the page ‘Ace in Grace’, a platform made to educate folks about the asexual community while also uplifting and highlighting Black & other POC who identify as such.

Jiyul Kim is a Korean-American, gray-ace, non-binary femme (she/they pronouns) studying Gender & Sexuality Studies, English Literature, and Psychology at Northwestern University. She loves to spend time with her cats and go bouldering in her free time.

Accessibility: Our store is wheelchair accessible, however–there is a narrow hallway and sharp 90-degree turn on the way to our bathrooms.
