DiscarDisco: A Trashion Show!
@ Chop Shop
2033 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Wednesday, February 12th, from 6PM - 9PM
The WasteShed is excited to present its first annual trashion runway show at Chop Shop (2033 W North Ave in Wicker Park) on February 12, 2019 from 6-9pm.
DiscarDisco: A Trashion Show will feature a fabulous array of hand-crafted trash garments by local designers and artists!
“All garments will consist of 100% repurposed materials and highlight the creative possibilities of what we commonly call ‘waste’ or ‘trash’,” said Adrian Jacobs, Marketing Assistant for The WasteShed.
A panel of judges will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for cash prizes. In addition to the runway show, there will be an “Accessories Table” that the public will have the opportunity to vote on, a silent auction of Chicago treats and experiences, a photo booth, free crafting activities (all with repurposed materials, of course) and dancing to wrap up the evening.
Everyone is encouraged to attend in costume, and those who do will receive a free drink ticket at the door! This is a 21+ ticketed event to benefit The WasteShed, an arts and environmental nonprofit, with General Admission tickets and a select number of VIP tickets available in advance, online for $35-$60.
“Midwinter is the time to celebrate Chicago’s tireless and brilliant makers, who have been cooped up inside creating visionary works to counteract the effects of seasonal depression,” said Eleanor Ray, Executive Director. “It’s time to let them loose and thank them for keeping our city alive in dark times.”
