Tetsuya Ishida’s haunting images provide a revealing perspective on the profound economic and social costs of Japan’s recessionary “Lost Decade” of the 1990s. This talk places Ishida’s work in the broad context of Japan’s economic history since World War II, exploring the complex and often contradictory impacts and legacies of the “Lost Decade” on economic institutions, cultural practices, and the lives of Japanese people.
About the speaker, Dr. William M. Tsutsui
William M. Tsutsui is President and Professor of History at Hendrix College. An expert in the economic and cultural history of modern Japan, he is the author or editor of eight books including Banking Policy in Japan, Manufacturing Ideology, and Godzilla on My Mind.
