“Songwriter and multi – instrumentalist Sima Cunningham has been a mainstay of the Chicago music scene for more than a decade. Along with co- founding the Avant rock band OHMME, she has also performed and recorded with a host of great artists including Jeff Tweedy, Chance The Rapper, Paul Dempsey and Kelly Hogan. Tonight will be Sima’s debut performance on the Option stage and she will share her unique musical talents in both a solo and group setting.” – Tim Daisy/Option Curator
Sima Cunningham is a Chicago born-and-raised musician and singer-songwriter. She has been playing and recording for over 10 years, releasing three solo records under her name. Very much a product of her city, her solo music blends experimental indie with folk and the avant-garde. She tours extensively, both in the US and internationally, with her band OHMME, who released their debut LP Parts on Joyful Noise Recordings in 2018. In addition, she tours in the band Tweedy as a vocalist and works as a festival producer/music presenter.
OPTION is a weekly music salon on Monday nights at Experimental Sound Studio. It’s programming explores contemporary perspectives on improvisation and composition in a ‘salon’ format, enabling local, national, and international artists to publicly discuss their practice and ideas as well as perform—all in the intimate environment of ESS’s Studio A. Organized by Chicago musicians Andrew Clinkman, Tim Daisy, and Ken Vandermark, the schedule of concerts represents an insider’s view of what is currently most exciting in music and the arts. Shows are professionally recorded by ESS staff, and are streamed live on YouTube.
