How do we uncover/discover the stories of those we no longer have access to?
Solo Exhibition by interdisciplinary visual and social practice artist A.Martinez, En la casa de Mamá, considers this question in an evolving body of visual art, installation, and social practice work based on the artist’s late grandmother, Mamá, her late father, and their homes in Santo Domingo, Brooklyn, and Cleveland. The work is rooted in family interviews, photo archives, visitation of family sites, and historical research and also serves as a reimagining of their stories lost through death, distance, immigration, and assimilation.
