How does the body navigate the tension between familiarity and estrangement, between land and self?

Self Portrait as a Wisconsin Man, a solo show by Jaeden Hannus, is a site of struggle, existing in the residue where nostalgia falters, where the frame can’t hold still. The work considers identity’s shifting relationship with landscape—how the self refuses to settle, and how our land holds history the way our bodies do. There is a pulse beneath the surface, a current of memory, of history, constantly pulling at the unseen, shifting what is buried, and reshaping what remains. The body does not end at the skin, it extends outward, unraveling into the land, dissolving into the water, threading itself through time.
