Kaelyn Andrade: A Traves De La Pantalla
@ Agitator Gallery
3851 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Friday, August 22nd, from 5:30PM - 10PM
On view through Saturday, August 30th
In the exhibit A Traves De La Pantalla, the painter Kaelyn Andrade looks at how women—especially Latinas—use social media to share their real, messy, and powerful selves. Through art, she explores identity, family, and the freedom to express who we are online. Like a feed, you can “like” pieces and leave your own thoughts.
Kaelyn Andrade is a multi media Chicago based artist. Kaelyn has a BA in Art and Art History from UIC and is currently working as a museum educator at the National Museum of Mexican Art. Kaelyn uses her work as a way to speak about her experiences as a woman and a Latina and uses her Art history background and social political knowledge to create work that connects her personal experiences to larger issues. She creates these connections through using historical knowledge and symbols conflated with contemporary sources such as memes and other forms of social media.
