FUTURA offers a personal reflection on the family history behind the exhibition:

“as a NATIVE NEW YORKER, born in NOVEMBER 1955, at BELLEVUE HOSPITAL in MANHATTAN, there’s no dispute as to my lifelong connection to the city, the mecca of my culture, my movement, my passion.

but what many may not know, is my history in the SECOND CITY, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. my mother BILLIE, was born there, and for all the years of my childhood, up until I was (15) I would spend every summer vacation with her there, while she would care for her mother, who had a chronic illness.

sadly, this year marks the (50th) anniversary of my mothers passing in 1975.

FAMILY AFFAIR, is my first solo exhibition in CHICAGO ever, at THE ANTHONY GALLERY, JUNE 2025, and suggests my journey has come full circle, arriving back in the city, where my GRANNY would make me PEACH COBBLER, and tell me jokes, while in her rocking chair on the porch. the porch?

I grew up in a 2 bedroom railroad apartment, on the third floor of a five story walk up. my GRANDPARENTS house was a palace by comparison, multiple floors and multiple rooms and a massive pantry.

I remember asking my mom “what’s a pantry?”
