The Lover’s Eye Press Reading Series brings you the best and brightest voices from Chicago’s literary community. The editors of Lover’s Eye Press have curated a vibrant mix of both well established and up-and-coming local writers, who will spend the evening reading selections from their latest work as well as selling and signing copies of their books.

FEATURING
Shirley Stephenson: Shirley Stephenson is a poet and nurse practitioner who serves as a primary care and substance use provider on Chicago’s west side. She manages research studies that investigate new treatment approaches for stimulant and opioid use addiction, with a focus on community-based options that extend care beyond clinic walls. Shirley is pursuing her PhD in the Program for Writers at UIC, where she is the poet in residence at the Institute for Research on Addictions. Her poems and prose have appeared in various literary journals, including Ploughshares, Fence, and the Best New Poets 2023 anthology.

Benjamin Niespodziany: Benjamin Niespodziany is a Chicago-based writer, editor, curator, and folklorist. The author of two books, his writing has appeared in Indiana Review, Booth, Bennington Review, Conduit, Fence, and elsewhere. Along with hosting the Neon Night Mic reading series at The Whistler, he recently launched Piżama Press, with the first release (a poetry book by Kiik Araki-Kawaguchi) scheduled for May 27. Margaret Hawkins: Margaret Hawkins writes fiction and nonfiction. Her third novel, Lydia’s Party, was published by Penguin. Her memoir about family mental illness, How We Got Barb Back, was published by Conari Red Wheel. Her essays, art writing, and short stories have appeared in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times where she was a columnist, the Missouri Review, Brevity, ARTnews where she was a contributing editor, Minerva Rising Press, The Perch (Yale), Lover’s Eye, and elsewhere. Currently she writes for The Democracy Chain and teaches writing at Loyola University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
