Robert Anderson: Resource + Result
@ Block House Gallery
11137 S Langley Ave, Chicago, IL 60628
Opening Saturday, April 26th, from 6PM - 10PM
On view through Saturday, May 31st
Known for highly textured works assembled from found materials, Robert Anderson is locally beloved in Pullman. His sculptures have been exhibited multiple years during the Terrain Biennial, local organizations have commissioned him to create murals and freestanding objects for their properties, and PullmanArts counts some of his work in our permanent collection. Anderson’s studio is an artwork in itself, highly recognizable from outside and a common stopping point for arts-related visits to the neighborhood.
Robert pursued his love for art at the The University of Wisconsin, where he participated in a two-year program that led to several exhibitions at the Milwaukee Museum of Art. Other artistic accomplishments include presenting exhibits at the Art institute of Chicago and the Indiana Arts Festival. During a sabbatical granted by UWM, Robert shared his love and knowledge of art as an instructor at the South Side Community Art Center in Chicago, where he taught youth art impression and artistic skill development.
Robert loves working big, with some of his pieces presenting at six feet or taller. He hopes viewers understand the feeling he gets from the relationship of architectural lines and texture, and that they see the beauty of man-made materials and forms that surround us every day.
Opening April 26th, Robert Anderson: Resource + Result features a whole new group of works from the multitalented artist, filling the Block House Gallery with wall-mounted works, ceiling-hung works, and freestanding works of metal, wood, paper, light…
Anderson is one of those artists whose talent and visual intuition far exceeds his current public renown. This spring show makes as clear a statement as we can: we believe you should be paying attention to Robert Anderson.
