For Women, by Women is an annual student-led exhibition showcasing the voices of women and nonbinary artists through photography, painting, fashion, and more.
For Women, By Women (FWBW) at Columbia College Chicago is an annual student-driven exhibition that amplifies the voices of women and nonbinary artists through diverse artistic expressions, including photography, painting, fashion, and more. Co-founded by Photography faculty member Diana Vallera and Photography alum Corinne Pompéy ‘22 the gallery provides a platform for artists to explore identity, challenge social norms, and foster a culture of equity and empowerment.
The 2025 event will feature an open-to-the-public gala showcasing artwork, live performances, and women-owned catering on April 25, from 5–7 p.m. at the Arcade Gallery, 618 S. Michigan Ave., second floor.
“The FWBW showcase is an important opportunity for women and nonbinary artists to share their experiences through art,” says Katia Jackson, a junior Photography major and member of the FWBW creative team. “Now more than ever is the time to not be led into despair, but to tap into our creativity and uplift one another.”
Pompéy emphasizes the gallery’s role in fostering community and resilience. “Highlighting womxn’s voices has always been important, but especially now,” she says. “I hope FWBW can provide a sense of healing and togetherness for those involved.”
Attendees can expect “an amazing tapestry of representation across cultures, diverse identities, and experiences,” says Vallera. “Opening night is a celebration of the artists, their work, and the community we build together.”
The gallery continues to be a transformative space for participating students. “Seeing the pride and energy of the student artists, and the joy of their families on opening night, remains the most rewarding experience,” Vallera adds. “Each year, the gallery advances a culture of equity, empowerment, and aspiration.”
