Artist’s Talk Saturday February 8 at 3 pm
Tom Burtonwood works in various media, including drawing, digital technologies, video, and the internet, all with a particular interest in the nature of durational sampling, in which images and objects are depicted both in and out of time and space. Sometimes illusionistic, and often challenging, his works operate in a way similar to quantum states, where they can be present both simultaneously and consecutively.
Holly Holmes’ most recent work is an exploration of found objects (Findings), which are examined under a microscope. The resulting detailed visual appearance is then rendered in fabric, using a traditional craft methodology of rug weaving. The finished work exhibit both realism and abstraction, moderated by the softness and warmth of the wool and cotton materials used — they straddle a line between comforting and uncanny.
