Not For Sale.

@ Evoke Gallery

3040 N Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60634

Opening Friday, January 10th, from 6PM - 10PM

On view through Saturday, February 8th

In an art world often driven by commercialization, “Not for Sale” takes a firm stance against the commodification of expression and spirit. Art is not a product, nor are artists mere sellers; instead, their work is a vulnerable extension of the soul, created for expression rather than transaction. In a society where art is frequently sanitized to appeal to markets, Evoke Gallery refuses to reduce art to mere merchandise.

This inaugural exhibition boldly declares that not all art can, or should, be owned. For this show, we invite you to experience works that resist possession, where no photographs are allowed, and no pieces are for sale. By embracing a model that focuses on renting and private viewings instead of purchases, Evoke returns the power to artists and offers patrons a unique, intimate experience of art. We center Black, Brown, Queer, and Trans voices to redefine the gallery space itself, challenging traditional narratives and rethinking what it means to appreciate art in its purest form.

In a world where “everything is for sale” and profit often overshadows purpose, “Not for Sale” asks: Can art transcend the marketplace? What is the value of art when it is removed from monetary exchange? Here, we draw a line in the sand and invite you to join us in redefining what a gallery can be.
