De-Assimilate Gallery Opening feat. No Pride in Genocide Film Screening

Join us in opening the De-assimilate exhibition with a screening of short films focused on the intersection of Palestinian and queer identities. De-Assimilate is a collection of works by Christina Sifri, a local Palestinian artist, who describes the inspiration/origin of their exhibition: “Over the past year, while watching the genocide of my people right before my eyes, many times feeling completely helpless, I have found myself indulging in art as a way to cope. Through art I have been able to connect with my own identity in a new way. I have experienced art as a form of reclamation of my culture, my family, and our story. This is a collection of pieces done over the past year that have contributed to the reconnection and reclamation of my roots.”
These films are brought to us by Filmistin, a collective of Palestinian filmmakers from Ramallah who host international film screening fundraisers to support families in Gaza. Ticket and all merchendise sales from this event will be directly sent towards families struggling to survive/escape the ongoing genocide. Please pay what you can!
A huge thank you to Gallery Wrightwood, who will be hosting this event. Gallery Wrightwood is an anti-capitalist, artist-led community project inside a 100-year-old church building that hosts art shows, workshops, and gatherings. They focus on making art accessible and interesting and to show human-made artworks that specifically speak to urgent social issues. The space is wheelchair accessible.
