Zor Zor Zor: Save Me

3203 S Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Saturday, December 14th, from 6PM - 10PM
On view through Friday, February 7th
Please join us on Saturday, December 14th, 2024 for the Opening Reception of “Save Me”, the third concentrated Solo Exhibition by Chicago based artist Zor Zor Zor. Reception is from 6-10pm. Light refreshments will be served.
In “Save Me”, artist Zor Zor Zor explores her relationship with her mother and its connection to her creative art practice. Struggling with various undiagnosed neuroses throughout her life, the artist’s mother developed many coping mechanisms to aid in her day to day life, subconsciously picked up by the artist herself. In this new body of work, Zor Zor Zor plays with found objects collected by both her mother and herself, writings on scrap paper, sculpture and painting. Nostalgic childhood items are painted black, hinting at unresolved traumas our parents carry with them and unintentionally pass onto their children.
Zor Zor Zor questions what it means to collect and save tangible objects, the odd comfort in chaos, and wonders how anxiety is tied to memories and their inability to allow one to ‘function’ effectively. She explores untraditional guidance, ‘backwards thinking’, depression, fear, doubt, hesitation and uncertainty.
The title, “Save Me”, is a play on scarcity mindset, hoarding tendencies, and religion.
With this exhibition, Zor Zor Zor hopes to open people’s hearts to those dark, uncomfortable places, create conversation and internal reflection.
Zor Zor Zor (b.1990) is a first generation, female artist from the southwest side of Chicago. She found her creative voice through street art in 2011 and is known for her murals and unsanctioned artworks throughout cities around the world. She now exhibits in galleries throughout Chicago as well as runs her own studio/gallery space in Bridgeport, Chicago.
