Lachlan Hinwood (b. 1995 in Altona, Manitoba, CA) is an Iowa based artist.
Hinwood’s paintings depict romantic, often spiritual depictions of nature, imbuing ordinary scenes with a sense of wonder and mystery. His ideas become almost a symbolic representation of reality using natural forms that create their own unique rhythm. Clouds become designs, the sun or moon become motifs, in scenic, small scale paintings that embody an earthy palette and a golden-hour glow. Hinwood’s paintings can bring to mind the distilled essence of Forrest Bess (another small-scale spiritual painter) or the energy of Charles Birchfield (one of the artist’s influences) who painted landscapes teeming with a vibrating energy. Similarly, Hinwood’s paintings convey a deep emotional connection to the natural world, reflecting his keen observation of light, color, and the changing seasons.
