@ Fourth Presbyterian Church
126 E Chestnut St, Chicago, IL 60611
Opening Friday, September 27th, from 5:30PM - 8PM
On view through Sunday, November 24th
Robert’s drawings and illustrations are featured in “Crickets and Corn: Five Stories About Native North American Children” published 1985 by Friendship Press. He is also an accomplished traditional storyteller. His work is represented in private collections and he has participated in exhibitions and solo shows throughout Chicago including American Indian Center, Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, State of Illinois Museum Gallery and around the world including American Community House and Queens Museum of Art in New York City. When Robert Wapahi introduces traditional Dakota stories, he begins with the words, “Back in the time when all things spoke,” which he says is the Native equivalent to “once upon a time.” His stories lead the listener to a world of adventure and serious reflection alike: hear about “The Creature on the Roof,” the adventures of two boys from different tribes, and the 20th century migration of American Indians to big cities such as Chicago.
Opening Reception: Fri, Sept 27, 5:30-7pm,
