Nnenna Okore’s sculptural work is informed by her enduring interest in the natural world and a deep engagement with process and materials. Regeneration and natural cycles are core interests that are echoed in her use of bioplastics and repetitive processes. These intricate forms invite the viewer in with their inventive textures and organic meanderings, providing further rewards with close-looking.
Okore is an internationally acclaimed Nigerian raised, Fulbright Fellow artist and educator who invites dialogue around ecology and sustainable practices through her sculpture and site-specific installations. Her works and public art have been featured in major venues, including the Museum of Art and Design, NY, Spelman Museum of Fine Art, Museu Afro Brasil, Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum of Art, the BrugesTriennial, and more recently at the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art.
