Artist, curator and writer Melissa H Potter will talk about her interdisciplinary practice over more than two decades interpreting and protecting women’s traditional practices globally. Potter explores these practices as a distinct language and history, and focuses on traditions that are threatened by war, industrialization and climate crisis. Through interdisciplinary collaborations with ethnographers, activists, scientists, and artists, her multi-media projects range from felt making in the Tusheti region of Republic of Georgia, to Feminist Seed Bank, an interpretive archive project documenting women whose plant-based practices are evolving in the era of climate collapse. Potter started her career as a hand papermaker, which she explores as a feminist and socially engaged practice. Currently, she practices hand papermaking to investigate climate change through the plants from which she makes paper.
