Hubcap Diamond Star Halo: Corbett vs. Dempsey at Twenty
@ Corbett vs. Dempsey
2156 W Fulton St, Chicago, IL 60612
Opening Saturday, September 14th, from 12PM - 4PM
On view through Saturday, November 2nd
In September, 2004, Corbett vs. Dempsey launched its first exhibition.
Two hundred and thirty-eight gallery shows later, with 300+ performances, 100+ book and catalog publications, 120+ CDs, LPs and singles on the associated label, and a labyrinthine trail of international art fair booths, collaborative presentations, museum curations, and screenings in the Vault, CvsD is delighted to be celebrating its first twenty years or its entrance into what the Art Ensemble of Chicago once labeled The Third Decade.
This rite-of-passage will be marked by means of a kaleidoscopic exhibition featuring many artists exhibited at or affiliated with the gallery. In the South Gallery, a group show will include, among many others, Charline von Heyl, Celeste Rapone, Karl Wirsum, Christopher Wool, Rebecca Morris, Albert Oehlen, Brian Calvin, and Magalie Guérin, with a tantalizing salon-style wall bustling with past and present CvsD allstars.
In the North Gallery, CvsD will present an unconventional series of focused exhibitions, seven in total, one new show per week for the duration of Hubcap Diamond Star Halo. These will represent a full range of the gallery’s activities, from deep dives into Chicago art history to the association between improvised music and visual art, as well as a few select solos, duets and trios featuring artists central to the CvsD’s unfolding enterprise.
The North Gallery rotating shows will consist of: Musician-Artist (featuring Peter Brötzmann, Roscoe Mitchell, Sun Ra, and Fred Lonberg-Holm); Robert Donley & Seymour Rosofsky; Weird Old Chicago; Morris Barazani, 1966 Paintings; Brian Calvin & Vivian Maier; Ed Flood, Art Green, & Jordan Davies; Diane Simpson.
