SPACE.01, a Black-owned, minority run art gallery and creative space will be hosting a solidarity art exhibition and fundraiser from August 2nd, 2024 through August 25th, 2024. There will be an opening ceremony at 6 PM on August 2nd. This show focuses on the direct relationship between life in the u.s. and colonial violence overseas, featuring work from 16+ u.s. based artists~including moments from a collaborative project involving 200+ artists. The show will take place at SPACE.01 at 2334 N Milwaukee Ave, and will be open from 12-8 PM on Mondays or by appointment. The exhibit is called my country kills people.
Throughout history, the U.S. has produced a narrative of separation between places of “war” and “peace”. integrating military violence into all aspects of everyday life produces a population that is largely unable to perceive its presence, preventing Americans from understanding both how the U.S. profits from colonial violence and how struggle is interconnected across distance.
Featuring work by Aliah Collette Robinson, Bao Thoa Luong, Chana Goldbloom, Hope Barkov, Janet Lee, Maclovio Orozco, Mari Guzmán, Melon Sprout, Mira Simonton-Chao, Mitchell Bueno, Sharah/Georgia, some), Sydney Cook, Sydney Shadeck-Triola, Trejon, 4n4, and the people.
50% of donations raised and 50%+ of artwork sales go to E-SIMS for Gaza, helping Gazans stay connected with family and the outside world. 50% of donations and 25% of artwork sales go to keeping SPACE.01, a black-owned, minority-run art gallery and creative space in operation.
